Typically, no BoxCaster maintenance is required on your behalf. The BoxCaster HDSD2 and Pro will get free software updates. If you keep your BoxCaster plugged into your network, the latest version of the firmware will be automatically updated.
For best results we always suggest plugging your BoxCaster in at least once a month. This way, even if you don't intend to use the unit in the near future, you will still be fully up to date on firmware.
The dashboard will display a message when updates are available for your BoxCaster. There are two different types of messages you might see:
- Firmware Update Available: If a new update is available but your current firmware is still acceptable, you should consider updating when time is appropriate but wouldn't otherwise interfere with your regularly scheduled broadcast. The update is not urgent.
- Firmware Invalid: If the dashboard tells you that the firmware is invalid, you should update as soon as possible. This is urgent and could prevent your broadcast from functioning properly. Please plug your BoxCaster in immediately.
